In this episode of Sacred by Design, Kyle addresses the common misconceptions around the word 'sacred.' She explains that many people feel unworthy of being called sacred due to their flaws, sins, or life experiences. However, she emphasizes that sacredness is a status granted by God, not something earned by human effort. By understanding that they are created by God, we can begin to embrace our inherent sacredness. We encourage you to reflect on your definitions of sacredness, seek God's perspective through scripture, and discard negative labels and self-conceptions. This is an invitation to accept your God-given sacredness and let it transform your life.

Discovering Your Sacredness Through God

Speaker 1

Hello and welcome to Sacred. By Design, my name is Kyle, so we've been taking time to talk about the title of our podcast, and so I'm wondering if some of you all are like me. You think about the word sacred and you think that's not me. You think, oh, that means something that's super holy, super pious, unapproachable and perfect. Because that's what I thought when I thought about the word sacred. I thought this is something I can never attain. There's no way in the world I could ever be sacred, and I think thinking that way also pushes you to live your life a certain way. You live your life in a way where you go I can almost get there, but this is the best that I can do. But if we take a step back and think about that again and this is what I had to do is to go okay, well, what does this mean from God's perspective? What does it really mean to be sacred? And as I took a moment to think about that, one of the things I thought about was well, how do I even become sacred? What does that even mean to become sacred? And what I realized is that sacredness doesn't come from me, because the truth is, if it did come from me. I couldn't achieve it, but I realized that sacredness comes from God and check this out Like it's, because I am created by God. That makes me sacred.

Speaker 1

And so often we will take our all of our issues and all of our behaviors and particularly around unwanted sexual behavior, or even if you're a person who has experienced abuse at the hand of someone else, or if you experience just this devastating betrayal in your marriage, this devastating betrayal in your marriage, there's a place in us that goes, yeah, I can't, there's just not a way for me to be sacred. Or maybe you feel like even it has been taken away from you. The ability has been taken away. It's not that you can't achieve it, but it's been taken away. And because it's been taken away, that there's no way for you to reclaim it. But here's something that's so good is that you don't even have to try to reclaim it. Can you stand in who you already are? And that's probably difficult. If you're wrestling with some things, you go. Well, I'm standing in some stuff that doesn't feel really sacred.

Speaker 1

But if you can look at being apart from your stuff, you are not your stuff and if you can start to grab that truth, what you'll realize is that you had this better opportunity to step into grasping and receiving your sacredness, because you know what? Because God created you then your sacredness means that you are holy, that you are set apart, that you are approachable and that there's a way in which you should be approached, because sometimes we even think, like I can't even hold on to sacredness because I'm of the way that I'm approached, or people can see my flaws and so they will approach me in a way that doesn't show that I am sacred. And so I'd like to just offer a challenge for you is to take a moment and think about what it means to do an exchange with God and tell God you know what, like God, I'm not going to hold on to this idea that I cannot be sacred. And yes, maybe I have some stuff that I'm really dealing with. Maybe there is, just there are things that are happening in my life, there are behaviors that I have that I feel like disqualify me. But, lord, I'm going to take this opportunity and I'm going to extend this stuff and give this stuff to you, because you've already died for it, and so you want to nail this stuff to the cross and, in exchange, you want me to receive the whole truth about sacredness and here's another thing that you'll really have to work on fighting off is that there are going to be some people around you who might say you know what? You're not sacred. You can never be that, because that means you have to be perfect. You can never be that because that means you have to be perfect. But remember, perfection is. This is not what sacredness is about.

Speaker 1

Sacredness is about who named you and gave you that. The people around you don't have the right to name you. The one who designed you and brought you forth into this world is the one who gets to name you. He's the one who gets to say who you are, and so you'll have to work at making sure that those other voices that maybe you have received in the past, that you felt were the right voices to listen to. Maybe you feel like they were the voices of authority who knew more than you, who could say yep, this is who you are, and you'll never be that, and so I hope that you can take this challenge and know that God is standing waiting for you. He's waiting to make this exchange with you. He's not standing back with his arms crossed going. I can't believe you are involved in X, y and Z. I can't believe you let this happen to you. That's not the God we serve. You let this happen to you. That's not the God we serve, and he has sent Jesus into this world to show you who you really are. And so consider taking that challenge.

Speaker 1

Take some time in the coming week, and I would say take a minute, to think about all of the ways that you felt like you weren't sacred. Think of even the definitions that you had about what sacredness means. And then take a minute and maybe you go through some scripture to look at who God says you are. Find those scriptures that talk about how God has named you, like in Psalm 139, 14, where you hear that you are fearfully and wonderfully made. Think about those kinds of things and start to ingest that.

Embracing Your Sacredness in God

Speaker 1

And if there's a way that you need to actually, even physically, or do something symbolically to kind of remove some of the labels that maybe you've received that have told you that you're not sacred, when you've heard words like you're dirty, you're unclean, you are not enough, you will never be enough, or even the comparisons unless you are more like her, then you'll never be good enough If you're not like this person, if you don't dress this way, all of those things, if you can just remove those things and find a way. Maybe you have a piece of paper that you're taking the time to write all this stuff down and maybe you take that piece of paper, maybe you rip it up, maybe you burn it, whatever it is that would help you to know that God has taken this from you and then take some time to start to receive what God has for you, because he has called you sacred for you, because he has called you sacred Just the mere fact that he brought you into this world and created you in his image. That seals the deal that makes you sacred. And so how can you receive some of the words from the Lord about your sacredness and start to ingest that, make those your labels and see how your thinking starts to change.

Speaker 1

And you might think well, I'm just shackled by this thing that either I've done or this thing that has happened to me. But when you begin to understand who you are, you start to operate out of that. You tend not to want to stay in these places where you're just filled with self-hatred and self-loathing. You have this opportunity to start to live out of your sacredness, and what you'll find is that that appetite for wanting to stay in the midst of that other stuff starts to diminish, and you want to ingest more of who God says you are, and then you start to live out of that. Daughters of God, always know that you have a father in heaven who has already set it before the foundations of the world that you would be sacred and that there's not anyone who can name you differently, call you differently. There's nobody else that can do that differently. There's nobody else that can do that, and so I pray for you, my beautiful sisters in Christ, that you would open your hands and receive the truth that you are sacred by design.
